It’s going to be a fantastic few days and nights of sport, film, arts, entertainment and fantastic partying with Leicester 1st pride for 3 years. Expect to find something to do in the busy and diverse schedule of events the pride committee have planned for the return of Pride.
Greek Pete + shorts (total running time 1hr 30mins)
(Dir Andrew Haigh | UK 2009 | 79min | 18)
Over six months Andrew Haigh worked with a group of London rent boys to create a semi-improvised drama based on their lives. Speaking their own words they are presented as they want to be seen. Sometimes explicit, sometimes awkward this is a million miles from an idealised version of prostitution. The boys may gloss over some of the issues but this is a privileged record of a sub-culture as never before seen on film.
Fire (India, 15 cert, 1hr 48mins) (£3.50)
Sita and Radha are young Indian women whose husbands choose celibacy or mistresses over their wives. The two women become friends and grow closer together, forming a forbidden but liberating relationship. A lush, passionate story of emancipation and love, in a closed society. Major controversy led this movie to be widely attacked and banned in India. Starring: Shabana Azmi, Nandita Das, Kulbushan Kharbanda, Jaaved
Jaaferi Director: Deepa Mehta
Bandaged (1hr 31mins)(£3)
(Dir Maria Beatty | With Janna Lisa Dombrowsky, Susanne Sachsse | Germany-USA 2009 : 18)
Bandaged is a camp lesbian classic in the making, where old-style horror blends with forbidden love in this kitsch homage to Eyes Without a Face.
