›–» Scaling

Scaling your objects for Active Worlds is imprtant. Although not everything in Active Worlds as you may know is perfectly to scale with real life. In the object pd01.rwx for example, the door is 3 meters tall, which is well over 6 foot 2 inches which is the normal size for a door in real life. As you make more objects, you will get used to scaling the objects correctly.

Use the Object Information dialog or the Resize tool to set the dimensions of your object before saving it. To help you scale your objects correctly, here is an outline of dimensions of typical Active Worlds objects in trueSpace.

Object Name

X (Width) by Y (Length) by Z (Height)

floor01.rwx

4m x 4m x 0m

walk001.rwx

8m x 8m x 0m

pp01.rwx

4m x 0m x 4m

pp01m.rwx

8m x 0m x 4m

So if for example you wanted to create an object the same as pp01.rwx but with a different texture or a shape cut out of it (like a new door or window or somthing), you would create a cube in trueSpace and set the dimensions to 4.000 (X) by 0.000 (Y) by 4.000 (Z) using the Object Information dialog.

Another important part of making objects for Active Worlds is ensuring that the object in at the center of your scene in trueSpace before you save it. You can do this by setting the first two "Location" fields (X and Y) to 0.000.

Also you should make the object just above ground level too. What I mean by that is: You see the dark grey ground in trueSpace that you make all your objects on? Well when you put your object in Active Worlds that will become the base of the object. So your object needs to be just above this or when you build your Object in AW, it will be stuck half in the ground or floating in the air somthing. Like shown below:

See how the object sits just above the ground level?

Your objects need to do this in order to appear correctly in Active Worlds.
